Sanguisugabogg & Kakothanasy
After having visited Switzerland together with Suffocation earlier this year in February, Ohio death metal quartet Sanguisugabogg played at the Sunset Bar in Martigny as part of their 2024 European Summer tour. Opening the show for them was Lausanne based brutal death metal band Kakothanasy.
For Kakothanasy, it was their first time playing in Martigny together as a band. Besides songs from their first full length record, they also played two songs from their upcoming album which have already been released last year as a demo. The complexity of their music was noticeable in the asynchronous head banging of some metalheads in the crowd – and the very concentrated faces of the band. Their thirty minute set left the audience wanting for more even after the encore, but as bassist Léo noted, “some people work tomorrow”.
Having taken the previous day off to enjoy local nature and visiting the close by H.R. Giger museum, Sanguisugabogg started their set full of energy. It didn’t take long for the crowd to go wild and after a few songs, enough beer was spilled both on and off stage to require a short pause to wipe it off the instruments. Sanguisogabogg mostly played songs from their most recent full length album, Homicidal Ecstasy, as well as their newest single “Permanently Fucked” which they just released earlier this month.
The verdict of the crowd – “so schnäll verbs gsi”; it was over too soon; maybe double so for the people that traveled all the way from the German speaking part of Switzerland to see the Americans play in Martigny. Let’s hope that they will be back again soon – not just because it’s their “favorite place in Europe”, but also for the beer, chocolate and the waterfalls.
