After 30 minutes to prepare the stage, it was Gotthard’s turn to perform. The stage was large and the challenge was to have a large presence on stage to occupy the space and make it feel less empty. With the number of years of experience the band has accumulated, this was not issue. The show was fantastic, with some incredible guitar solos. This band took us straight back to the ’90s. I don’t know whether I prefer old-school rock or modern rock, but this hard rock from the ’80s and ’90s is timeless.
We waited impatiently for the last band of the evening, Scorpions. What an honor to be able to hear them live in an open-air venue in Switzerland! The first song started with „Coming Home,“ followed by „Gas in the Tank.“ It’s been a long time since the band played „Coming Home,“ so it was great to hear this song again! When Scorpions played „Wind of Change,“ Klaus had the audience sing parts of the song. Many of us were singing along to this song. Towards the end of the set, Mikkey did a solo on „New Vision.“ We could see the drum vibrating so much as the drummer was hitting his instrument hard. He executed the song with precision and power. After playing „Big City Nights,“ the band saluted the crowd, Rudolf threw guitar picks into the audience, the lights went down, and the band left the stage. Was this already the end? We wanted to hear „Still Loving You“ and „Rock You Like a Hurricane.“ The band came back on stage to play the two songs mentioned above. And this time, it was the end for real.
It was a splendid evening, and the weather was just fine, although it was a bit windy towards the end. The bravest of us took a refreshing bath in the lake while watching the concerts. Some were even on their boats with their beer to watch the rockers on stage. A huge number of people came from all over Switzerland and probably abroad to attend this series of concerts. The organization was top-notch, with an exceptional line-up for the first day!
