Caribana festival
The 32nd edition of Caribana opened the festival season and kicked off on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Four evenings featured very different styles of music. The first evening was all about rock and metal. The headliners were Parkway Drive and Bad Omens. Unfortunately, Bad Omens were unable to perform for medical reasons. Despite the short notice, the festival was able to find a great Swiss band called Zeal and Ardor to replace them.
The evening began with „Cassyette“ on the main stage. This artist offered a mix of pop and rock. As soon as the first songs were sung, small circles formed in the crowd. „Cure for the Ghost“ took to the stage shortly afterward, hitting hard from the very first notes and putting smiles on the faces of rock fans. After a 45-minute intense show, it was time to refuel with beer and food before the great Swiss band, who mix black metal with African-American spirituals. This style is still rare in the world of metal. However, the mix works perfectly together and „Zeal and Ardor“ was well received. At 9:30 pm, Unpeople started playing. From the very first song, the band gave the audience a lot of energy with their melodies. The festival began to fill up for the big headliner, Parkway Drive. The Australian metalcore band got us straight into the atmosphere with pyrotechnic effects from the very first song. They weren’t just there to play music; they were also there to set the place on fire. The 1 hour and 15 minutes of the intense show featured Jeff Ling, who offered some wild riffs, without forgetting Winston McCall’s unique voice! After the concert, the festival smelt like August 1st with all the fireworks and pyro effects.
The evening ended on the small stage with Bob Vylan, who gave us a mix of punk rock/hip-hop. Unfortunately, many people had already left before the last concert, probably to be in great condition to see Birdy, Raphaël, and Martin Solveig in the days that followed.
The metal and rock evening at the Caribana Festival was sunny and explosive. We’re already looking forward to next year’s line-up.
