Dark Christmas – Tarja Turunen
A lady in white, a church and filled up benches. What else can that be than a wedding?
Well, Tarja was in Town and gave us a taste, how Christmas songs can be enjoyed.
As soon as the first show falls, it becomes my mission to avoid everything Christmas themed as good as I can. To go to the church and listen to “Jingle Bells” and other classics seems to be counterintuitive.
“Dark Christmas” was the name of Tarja’s winter tour and we got 17 Christmas songs, performed by Finnlands greatest voice (plus band). While most of the songs, minus the two instrumentals, where either in English or Finnish, “O’ Tannenbaum” was sung in German.
The location added a lot the the atmosphere on this evening. The acoustic was very good, no matter where in the room I sat. Also the overall loudness did not require and earplugs and was surprisingly consistent in the whole of the church.
For the last few songs, the “wedding”-dress got exchanged for an awesome dark dress and two encore songs concluded the evening.
