Sepultura Farewell Tour - Celebrating life through death

Espaço Unimed

It’s time to say goodbye to the most iconic Brazilian Thrash Metal band of all times: The world known; Sepultura!
They will say farewell with their “Celebrating Life Through Death “world tour that started this year and it will go on till 2026.
We were at their sold out second date concert in São Paulo – Brazil and here is our impressions of the farewell tour.

On September 7, even on a sunny Saturday, the entire day was dedicated to culture. The International Book Biennial was happening, and there was free entry to the Ipiranga Museum. But for the headbangers, the big event was the second Sepultura show in São Paulo, at Espaço Unimed.
As time went by, the crowd grew and got packed in. Just to give you an idea, even with sold-out days, no one seemed to mind. After all, it was a dream come true for those who had never seen Sepultura live.

When the lights went out, videos started playing, showing the band’s merch booth. There was even a backstage video with the band getting ready. Then, War Pigs by Black Sabbath played.
That’s when the mechanical intro sounds began, and Sepultura hit the stage, kicking off the carnage with Refuse/Resist, Territory, and Slave New World. No one cared about catching their breath; it was a full-on assault. After that initial Chaos A.D. trio, they dropped three tracks from Roots: Dusted, Attitude, and Cut-Throat.

Next up was Phantom Self from Machine Messiah, followed by Means to an End from Quadra, False from Dante XXI, Sepulnation, and Choke from Against. In other words, Derrick’s era of the band was fully explored.

Derrick was glowing, speaking his Americanized Portuguese, always friendly. Andreas Kisser was also emotional seeing so many people crammed in, just for these shows. Paulo Junior was pulling double duty, playing with both Sepultura and Cultura Tres. Now, Greysson Nekrutman? He made sure we didn’t miss Eloy Casagrande at all. This kid is a beast on the drums, unleashing all his fury with every song.

The most iconic moment was the performance of Kaiowas. By the end, guests like guitarist Márcio Sanches, Supla, Henrique Pucci, the brothers from Cultura Tres, and Yohan Kisser joined in the fun. Another highlight was Agony of Defeat and Guardians of Earth from Quadra. The crowd really praised the latest album.

Then it was time for the classics: Biotech is Godzilla, Dead Embryonic Cells, Escape to The Void, Troops of Doom, Arise, and Inner Self. When they played these, the floor turned into a war zone, with everyone running and moshing. And let’s not forget Orgasmatron by Motörhead, which has practically become one of Sepultura’s own tracks.

After that classic mix, it was encore time, with Ratamahatta and the must-play Roots Bloody Roots. With a show like that, no one will forget this historic moment.

As the farewell tour’s name says, “Celebrating Life Through Death,” we’ve got to make the most of our moments while we’re alive. Sepultura has made the most of its 40 years, touring the world, representing Brazil, making history in Brazilian metal, and now they’re closing their journey in grand style.

Thank you, Sepultura!
