Cavalera
Cavalera’s 2024 European summer tour wrapped up with one last show at the Sunset Bar in Martigny. Not surprisingly, the small venue was packed to the brim. The lucky few that got a ticket – the show was sold out within minutes, a new record for the venue – were met with an unrelenting musical onslaught. The band played mainly songs from the first three Sepultura releases, celebrating the re-release of the eponymous Schizophrenia under the Cavalera name.
Accompanying the Cavalera brothers on stage were Pig Destroyer’s Travis Stone on guitar, and Igor Amadeus Cavalera, Max Cavalera’s son, on bass. The band played through an assortment of songs from the early Sepultura releases, celebrating the re-recordings of the songs under the Cavalera name, most recently Schizophrenia, (re)released on the 21st of June 2024.
The band opened their set with Bestial Devastation, followed by Antichrist and Necromancer, all off of the first Sepultura release. Next up were three songs of off Morbid Visions, followed by a selection of songs from Schizophrenia. Towards the end, the band also threw in a few songs from Sepultura’s Chaos A.D. and Arise albums as crowd pleasers. Overall, the band delivered an energetic performance, breezing through the set list with little to no pause – with one notable exception: to wish their drum tech happy birthday and having the crowd sing “Happy Birthday” to him. All in all, a worthy ending to a tour in probably the smallest venue on their trajectory – but a real treat for fans to see Cavalera in a bit more intimate setting than usually, and a little closer too.
