Jesus Piece & Cage
Jesus Piece stopped by the Sunset Bar in Martigny on their 2024 summer tour, supported by local hardcore group Cage. An evening packed with pummeling riffs, energetic breakdowns and tons of moshing.
Cage, hardcore punk quartet from Gruyères, opened the show with a ferocious 20-minute set, accompanied by scenes from Italian classic “Don Camillo” playing in the background. They quite aptly describe their sound as “too punk for the hardcore and too hardcore for the punks” – a very fitting description. The crowd took a bit of time to warm up, saving their energy for the main act – but nonetheless, the energy was there. For the last song of their set, the quartet switched instruments – the vocalist was now on guitar, the guitarist filled in on drums, and the drummer took over vocal duties.
After a short break, Jesus Piece took the stage. The American metallic hardcore band is known for their wild shows. The on-stage energy of the band transferring immediately to the crowd. The sold-out venue was filled to the brim, but that didn’t stop from a mosh pit to be formed quickly; to the detriment of some of the spectators closest to the door that got pushed out of the venue at times. Unsurprisingly, the venue heated up quickly. Vocalist Aaron Heard exclaiming “c’est chaud, putain” was met with laughter from the crowd.
While this was their only show in Switzerland this summer, Jesus Piece will be back later this year in support of Sepultura for their farewell tour.
